Why to upgrade memory?
The physical memory is usually the first component you will feel the need to upgrade. Unlike CPU which is harder to replace/upgrade memory upgrades when correctly done give you exponential benefits.
The need for upgrading memory in Acer® Veriton®
Consider this analogy: the CPU is your brain, the memory is your home’s library, and the hard drive is your town’s library. Everything you can do from the top of your head is blazing fast, when you have to resort to the books at home it gets a little slower, but when you have to go to the town’s library it just gets slow and unproductive. However, your home library is limited in space, so when you have that space filled up, you have to start moving books between home and the library, and this is what your computer is doing when it starts “swapping”: it is exchanging blocks of data between in use memory that has been static for some time, storing it temporarily on disk, thus making room for new data on physical memory. When it needs that “old” data from memory, it’s actually on disk, so it has to pick another chunk of static memory, dump that on disk, restore the wanted data to physical memory, and finally use it. Now go back to the analogy and think how much time you’d waste working like that, carrying books to and from the library constantly.
If you create more room for the books at home; you can avoid a large number of trips to the library. That’s why upgrading the memory is extremely beneficial, as soon as you can tell that you’re consuming a lot over your physical memory.
If the physical memory of your PC is filled completely your PC will slow everything down. Your computer seems sluggish most of the time and keeps reading and writing to the hard disc like crazy. It is the right time to upgrade.
