Minimum system requirements for installing Windows® XP
For Windows® XP, the minimum hardware requirements include Intel® Pentium® 233-300 MHz processor or faster, 64-128 MB RAM at least, 1.5GB of available space on the hard disk, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, keyboard and a mouse or some other compatible pointing device, video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution, and sound card and speakers or headphones.
How to prepare for the installation
Your system package comes with a Windows® XP installation CD inside it. You need to make sure that the product key is written properly on the CD case. Next, you need to make sure that the hardware, like CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and so on, are in place and connected. You also need to check for hardware driver CDs and keep them handy as you’ll need to install them to make the hardware work.
To start the installation, you need to insert the CD in the CD driver and restart your computer. You would be prompted by the ‘Press any key to boot from CD’ command, after which you would be taken to the ‘Setup’ page. Now, you need to accept the Licensing Agreement. Then, use the ‘Up’ and ‘Down’ arrows to select the ‘Format the partition using the NTFS file system’ option to format the hard drive and for Windows® to copy the set-up files. Next, by following the on-screen prompts you can customize your software. You’ll need to enter the product key, date, time, and other personal details. You would be prompted to connect to the Internet to register your copy of Windows®. On completing this, you need to click ‘Finish’ on the ‘Thank You’ page and that would complete the installation.
