Compatible and genuine updates
Before downloading the updates, make sure that it is compatible with your Acer TravelMate and incompatible update might cause many errors. The BIOS configuration holds the basic settings of a computer. The computer might not even boot if a wrong BIOS version is downloaded and updated. The device driver is a program that makes your hardware work. So if a wrong device driver is downloaded and updated, the device might not work. You can download the updates from Acer website and select the exact model of your laptop to avoid incompatibility issues. Many other websites offer updates which might not be genuine.
Stable power should be supplied during the update process. The updation process might fail or files could be corrupted if the laptop goes off while update is in process. Make sure that the battery is fully charged before the updation is started. Close all the applications before starting the update process because an open program could interrupt the updation process. You can check and end the running programs from task bar. An error free Internet connection is required. Ensure that the Internet connection is stable while downloading the updates.
All the latest versions of Windows have a feature called ‘System restore.’ You can create a system restore point before updatation. If the system fails or if any error occurs after Windows, drivers or other application updates, you can restore the computer to the created restore point that would undo the recent changes made. You cannot undo the BIOS updatation using the system restore tool.
