Acer® to introduce ultrabooks with fiberglass casing
Good news for all the ultrabook fans. Acer has announced that they will be launching a 15-inch ultrabook featuring a fiberglass cover. Normally ultrabooks were made of aluminium, but due to its high cost, Acer has now decided to use fiberglass, which is quite cost effective.
With this 15-inch ultrabook, Acer plans to join the competition for the top-spot in the tech world. According to some sources, even ASUS is planning to launch fiberglass ultrabooks to take on the competition.
The main strategy behind this ultrabook cover changing from aluminum to fiberglass is to bring down the price of the ultrabook. With a lower price, Acer plans to compete with Apple models.
The price of fiberglass chassis will be less expensive by $5 to $10 in comparison to aluminum alloy, which means they can save up to $20 for the casing. Acer ultrabook was scheduled to be launched in 2011, but due to some unfavorable conditions in the market, they postponed it to early 2012. The fiberglass chassis will be manufactured by Mitac Precision Technology. There are rumors that even ASUS will be using fiberglass chassis manufactured by Mitac Precision technology.
Many companies now favor fiberglass casing because it makes ultrabook lighter than aluminium casing. According to some sources, Acer plans to outsource their fiberglass ultrabooks to Compal Electronics.
Acer 15-inch fiberglass case ultrabook will be released by 2012, but there have been no news about the exact day.
