Optical drive in Acer® Extensa®
The issues that may come up with the optical drive of your Acer® Extensa® laptop.
A device or an equipment that can read and write data using laser is known as an optical drive. Compact discs, Blu-ray™ discs, CDs, and DVDs are some of the most common discs that can run on optical drives, which can read and write data in a language understood by PCs. Like all laptops, your Acer® Extensa® laptop also comes equipped with an optical drive that decodes information for you to access. However, at times the optical drive is capable of malfunctioning and developing issues. For instance, lighting issues, wherein it may take time to light up or might not light up at all. It can also develop problems with reading or burning CDs or the drive tray may get stuck.
Here are some of the optical drive-related issues on your Acer® Extensa® laptop and some basic steps to help you correct them :
- Lighting issues
- Drive not burning CDs/DVDs or burning them with errors
- Drive tray not opening
When inserting a CD or DVD, if the optical drive initially lights up but then dies out or it does not light up at all, pull the removable optical drive out and then push it back slowly but firmly in. The reason for the drive to first light up and then diminish could also be due to a dirty laser lens. To fix this, you need to clean the lens with either a CD lens cleaner or a compressed air cleaner. With removable optical drives, you can clean the contacts with a pencil eraser.
Drive not burning CDs/DVDs or burning them with errors
If the optical drive on your Acer® Extensa® laptop is failing to burn optical discs or is burning them with errors, then make sure that the size, format, and brand of the discs being used are supported by the drive. If not, then you might not be able to burn the discs. Clean the drive for the laser to write competently. Also try a slower burning speed.
Check to see for any obstruction in the optical drive of your Acer® Extensa® laptop is preventing the tray from opening. Try to push out the tray by sticking a straightened-out pin in the hole. Once out, clean the drive and then close it.
