The Acer Extensa is a range of low cost business class notebooks from Acer ®. Designed for corporate use, the Extensa® sports a solid and attractive black matte carbon graphite chassis. Weighing approximately 2.5kg, the six-cell ion lithium battery can last up to three hours on moderate usage, perfect for the quick presentations for clients. Bundled with a number of useful proprietary productivity software, such as the Acer Video Conference Manager, Acer® eRecovery Management and the Acer® Gridvista, the Extensa® is preinstalled with the Windows® 7 Professional operating system. Loaded with the powerful Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T6570 processor, Extensa® is built on an Intel® GM45 platform, capable of supporting up to 4GB DDR3 memory. The installed hard drive is 250GB; it is fitted with the standard peripherals, such as wireless and LAN connectivity, Bluetooth, a rewriteable optical drive, the integrated CrystalEye webcam, a 5-in-1 card reader, microphone and an SPDIF port. While the existing setup of the components and installed drivers are quite satisfactory, an enhancement of the installed drivers may give a boost in performance that will make your experience with Acer® Extensa® much more satisfying.

The drivers for Acer® Extensa®
Acer® Extensa® utilizes industry standard range of components. The existing Extensa® drivers for the major components are indicated as follows. For Chipset it uses Intel® Chipset Driver 184.108.40.2065. For storage SATA AHCI 8.8.Driver 0.1009 is put in use. Graphics utilizes Intel® VGA Driver 220.127.116.115. Audio needs Conexant Driver 18.104.22.168. For wireless and network the drivers are Intel 5100 22.214.171.124 and Atheros® LAN Driver 126.96.36.199 respectively. Webcam uses either Suyin 188.8.131.52 or Chicony 184.108.40.2063 (One of these would be installed according to production batch). For all card readers, Realtek 6.1.7600.30102 drivers are utilized. The drivers for the touchpad is Synaptics Touchpad Driver 220.127.116.11.
Updating Acer® Extensa® drivers
The out of the box Acer® Extensa® drivers are similar to downloads available at Acer® support site. As such, an update from there would not provide any discernable performance gain. However, there are alternative options open to the resourceful. Intel® has released version 18.104.22.1686 of the chipset driver which can be obtained from their site. Atheros® has provided two revision of their LAN Driver. The latest download version is the 22.214.171.124. Realtek’s card reader latest driver and firmware, 6.1.7600.30106, allows recognition of media’ of up to 16GB capacity.
