External monitor in Acer® Aspire®
Tips To Connect An External Monitor To Your Acer® Aspire® Laptop
The Acer® Aspire® series of laptops is produced and aimed for the casual household user or for small office-home office usage. Most Acer® Aspire® notebooks are perfect for home usage like watching videos and movies and connecting to the Internet. The Acer® Aspire® series has a slightly different mechanism to connect an external monitor. In this article we discuss the tips to connect an external monitor to your Acer® Aspire® laptop.
Tips to connect an external monitor in Acer® Aspire®:
- Auto Switch Settings
- Resolution Settings
Like almost all modern laptops, the Acer® Aspire® series supports the connection to an external display like a flat screen monitor, high definition TV, CRT monitor, or Projector. It does so that the display is directly relayed to the external display unit instead of to the laptop display. Simply connect the external display unit (flat panel, HDTV, CRT or a projector) to your Acer® Aspire® 15-pin based video connection port. If auto switch is enabled, the Acer® Aspire® one should automatically switch to the new external display unit. If not, you may need to configure the relay of the display signal to the external unit manually. To do this, simply right click on the desktop and choose graphics options and then select the external monitor. You should be all set to use your external monitor.
Auto Switch Settings
You can enable or disable the auto switch to an external display by setting the default option in the CMOS set-up of your Acer® Aspire® laptop. You can do this by rebooting the computer and then selecting the CMOS set-up on the boot menu for the Acer® Aspire®. Once selected you can enter the CMOS set-up and change the auto switch settings.
Almost always the external monitor that you connect to the Acer® Aspire® will support a greater resolution than the laptop. You can change the resolution of the external monitor according to your preferences. To do this, you will need to make sure that the external display is detected by the operating system installed on your Acer® Aspire®. For Microsoft® Windows® users, this can be done by simply looking and inspecting the Windows® Device Manager and making sure that the external display device monitor is listed in it. If the Acer® Aspire® is running a Linux® operating system flavor, then the users would need to change the XF86Config file manually; then edit it and then add the display settings for the new external display unit/device.
