Acer® Aspire 5517 Windows® 7 Drivers
Windows® 7 drivers available for Acer® desktops or laptops can be downloaded via Acer's® Service and Support site. Acer® provides many custom Windows® 7 drivers for their PCs and laptops but much of the hardware will be installed using the default drivers in Windows® 7.

How to install Windows® 7 drivers in the Acer® Aspire® 5517 laptop
After downloading Windows® 7 drivers, just follow these steps to install the drivers. Open Windows® Device Manager by simply typing it in start button search, in the Device Manager make sure the device you're attempting to install is not already listed from past install attempts. Select and click on remove if it is already there to prevent any conflicts. Then reboot the computer. An install new hardware notification will appear while rebooting and if Windows® detects the new hardware using this wizard you should be able to point Windows® to the folder containing your drivers either on the CD or the folder containing the files you downloaded. Alternatively, if the hardware is not detected, open Control Panel and click on ‘Add Hardware’ to run the hardware detection wizard. Thereafter you can browse for the hardware device drivers and install them. Finally reboot your computer after the installation. To upgrade the already installed drivers open Windows® Device Manager. In the Device Manager select the device for which you want to update the drivers. Then right click the device and click ‘Properties’. Click on the driver tab in the window that appears. Click on the update driver button and then browse for the folder containing the updates. Again once you are done updating, reboot the system.
What to do if the install doesn't work
If after following the above steps you still have any issues, there is another method you can try which is by installing it in compatibility mode. To do this, just right click on the Setup Application stub. It is usually titled Setup.exe or whatever program you are opening to install the driver. Then click on ‘Properties’, and then click on the compatibility tab. Enable the compatibility mode and select “Windows® RTM” from the drop down list. Click on OK and try again. The files you download are generally compressed if you download it from the site mentioned above, which contain all the drivers. So, first you need to uncompress the folder, while doing this take care where you keep the uncompressed folder before you start installing. After installing, you can remove the extracted folder.
If you just want to download single executable files for a particular driver separately, you can follow these steps. So, suppose you want to install/upgrade Acer® Aspire® 5517 Notebook ATI™ VGA Driver for Windows® 7 which is a display and video driver. Find your ATI™ Display and Video device model. Then define your operating system to install your ATI™ Display and Video device. Search for Display and Video Drivers on the Internet or the site mentioned at the beginning. Find ATI™ Display and Video Drivers for Acer® Aspire® 5517 Notebook. Download Acer® Aspire® 5517 Notebook ATI™ VGA Driver. Install the driver as mentioned above. Finally, restart or reboot your computer to finish your driver installation. Also, before you download or install your drivers, you need to check whether you have got the right driver. For a notebook you just need to give the correct model number of your notebook and of the OS, but if it’s an external piece of hardware the model number etc are usually on the hardware, where you also find the serial number, so check them. Upgrade manually only if you really want to as improper drivers may result in instability of the system.
